Zinedine Zidane resigns as Real Madrid coach

                  

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said Thursday he was leaving the Spanish giants in a surprise move announced just days after winning the Champions League for the third year in a row.

“I have taken the decision to not continue next year as Real Madrid coach,” the Frenchman told a hastily convened press conference, before adding he was not looking for another club to coach.

“This club deserves to continue to win and needs a change” he said, adding that he believed the “moment has come.”

“After three years the club needs another discourse, another method of working,” he added

I don’t see myself continuing to win this year and I am a winner, I don’t like to lose,” added Zidane, who was under contract with Real until 2020.

“I have thought a lot about this decision and I can’t go back on it.”

Real beat Liverpool 3-1 in the final in Kiev on Saturday, making Zidane the first coach in history to win three successive Champions League titles.

Zidane, 45, has now won nine trophies since replacing Rafael Benitez in the Santiago Bernabeu dugout in January 2016.

He was flanked at the press conference by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez who said Zidane’s announcement was “totally unexpected”.

Zidane said his decision had nothing to do with Cristiano Ronaldo hinting that he will also leave the club.

In 2017, during a podcast interview, Travis McCoy disclosed how he beat a heroin addiction that could have killed him. Though he claims he has beaten his addiction and is back to making music again, the damage done by years of being addicted to drugs still shows on his face.

Nigeria vs Congo DR: 4 things we learnt as Super Eagles were held to 1-1 draw

 

On Monday evening, Nigeria was held to a 1-1 draw by the Democratic Republic of Congo, in an international friendly played at the Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

William Troost-Ekong opened scoring for the Super Eagles, before the visitors equalized via a late penalty.

So, what are the four things we learnt form the team’s ‘farewell game’?

1. Uzoho has improved a lot: It is an open-secret that Francis Uzoho is Rohr’s favourite goalkeeper in the squad and from all indications, he will be the number one at the 2018 World Cup. The teenager performed admirably against the Congolese, showing signs of improvement from the last time we saw. A shame he conceded from the spot.

2. Dreadful pitch: It was completely impossible not to complain about the pitch at the Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium for the entire 90minutes! It was beyond horrible and made playing difficult. One wonders the idea behind taking a friendly to Port Harcourt, at the risk of picking up injuries with few weeks to the World Cup.

3. Simy deserves a place: Crotone forward, Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwankwo, gave a good account of himself in the game. Surely, he must have done enough to take his place in the final squad to Russia. Tall, athletic and skillful, Simy troubled the visitors all game.

4. Poor Aina: Replays of the penalty decision against Ola Aina, showed clearly that the foul happened just outside the box. But it is hard not to feel Rohr is unhappy with conceding late in the game and it might hamper Aina’s chances of making his final squad, especially with Tyronne Ebuehi putting in a splendid performance, before he was taken off.

 

Liverpool announce Fabinho transfer from Monaco

           

The Brazil midfielder has put pen to paper on a deal that sees him move to the Champions League runners-up

Liverpool have announced the signing of midfielder Fabinho from Monaco for a fee of €45 million (£39m/$52m) plus bonuses of up to another €5m (£4m/$6m).

The move comes less than 48 hours after the Reds fell to Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League final.

Liverpool have said the 24-year-old Brazilian's move will complete on July 1 having completed a medical and signed a long-term deal with the club.

And the midfielder says he is happy to have linked up with the Champions League runners-up, calling Liverpool a "giant of a team."

“This is something that I always wanted – this is a giant of a team. The infrastructures of the club look exceptional," Fabinho told the club's official website. 

“A football club of this size coming after my services, I didn’t have to think that much about coming over.

“I will try to create my own history at this football club. Hopefully, on a personal level, I’m able to win titles with this club.

“I will try to grow and learn and improve myself, and to be part of the club’s history.”

He added to RMC: "I'm really happy to join Liverpool. In the last transfer window, things were a little difficult. It was almost done, but I stayed.

                   

"I've done great things with Monaco, it was great for five seasons. At Liverpool, I hope to have the same success. It's a big club, really ambitious, which has done great things in recent seasons. They were in the Champions League final and were still among the leaders in the Premier League.

"I think I can grow a lot and learn a lot at this club. It's a league I like a lot. I hope I can continue to develop at this great club."

Meanwhile, Monaco's vice president Vadim Vasilyev heaped praise on the outgoing player.

"I want to salute a player who, despite his young age, has set an example on and off the field thanks to his exceptional technical and human qualities," he told RMC.

Fabinho spent one season on loan with Real Madrid, playing mostly for their second side, which at the time was in the Spanish second division.

He moved to Monaco in the summer of 2013, and went on to make 225 appearances in his career there.

Fabinho also scored 29 times for Monaco, including nine times in 2016-17's Ligue 1 campaign, when he helped Monaco stun Paris Saint-Germain for the league title. 

He also reportedly had the interest of Liverpool's Premier League rivals Manchester United, but the Reds have swooped in to beat other clubs to the punch. Previously Liverpool had been linked with Napoli's Jorginho. 

Fabinho represents Liverpool's first signing of the transfer period, but he is unlikely to be the last as Goal can confirm the Reds are in pursuit of Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir, with Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic also among their potential targets.

The concert, which held at 20,000- capacity O2 Arena in London, was sold out.

Tiwa Savage, a Mavin artiste, joined him to perform their 2017 collaboration, ‘Ma Lo’.

When the ‘Come Closer’ singer wanted to introduce Tiwa Savage, he said: “Let my baby down. Don’t worry I’m coming to get you.

Drake-Pusha-T Feud Gets Uglier, as Kim Kardashian Goes on Twitter Rampage Defending Kanye West

                          

What better way to spend a holiday weekend than a Twitter feud over a diss track apparently so powerful that it ultimately sucks in a Kardashian and a non-profit organization? That’s exactly what’s played out over the past 36 hours as the Drake/Pusha-T drama that began with Pusha’s new track “Infared” from his Kanye West-helmed new album “Daytona”) and escalated with Drake’s response, “Duppy Freestyle.”

 Recap that drama here, then fast-forward to Saturday, when veteran Chicago rapper and occasional West collaborator Rhymefest got involved. Rhymefest cofounded Donda’s House, a nonprofit youth organization he launched with West in their hometown of Chicago; it is named after West’s late mother, who died of a heart attack in 2007 after a botched plastic surgery operation.

Rhymefest used one of Drake’s lines mentioning West — “Tell ’Ye we got an invoice comin’ to you/ Considering we just sold another 20 for you” — as a reason to tweet at Drake, asking him to help Donda’s house in assisting “the part of Chicago Kanye has abandoned!”

Into the fray jumped West’s wife Kim Kardashian, who broke a long string of tweets about her makeup line to go after Rhymefest, attacking everything from his work with the non-profit (“Truth is you haven’t been able to sustain the foundation”) to his “sub par beats” to “over-[leveraging] Kanye’s name” to his shoes (“U haven’t been right since u got kicked out of the studio in Hawaii wearing fake Yeezy’s”).

She said she will remove Rhymefest from the foundation — “You better believe I will make it my mission to take Donda’s House from you and let my children [North, currently aged 2, and twins aged five months] run it the way it should be run!” — and then apologized to her 60 million followers “for flooding my timeline I know you have no idea who Rhymefest is.”

Rhymefest responded with a statement to Kardashian saying “I spoke to your husband about peace, and balance, as well as about the work that we have been doing in Chicago regarding Donda’s House. He was more interested in his record.” Another statement then followed, in which the organization said will continue but will “no longer use the name Donda’s House Inc. This has been an incredibly difficult decision but the social media quotes from Kim Kardashian West, as well as the expressed interest of her family rung the organization, has brought us to this decision.”

All that — from one diss track. On Saturday night Drake dropped a new song called “I’m Upset” that, despite its title, seems unrelated to the feud. As of Sunday morning, Kardashian was back to tweeting about KKW Beauty’s Memorial Day sale and Kanye had yet to weigh in, but smart money says he’s currently revising the lyrics to at least one song on his forthcoming seven-track album, due Friday, to address it.
